Cryptocurrencies: Fool’s Gold or the Future?
Cryptocurrencies have attracted a huge level of interest driven largely because of their rapid price appreciation and prospective new coin launches, notable features that distinguish them from government-backed currencies; however, all that glitters is not gold. Are cryptocurrencies fool’s gold and fraught with hype, or is digital currency the future? In this paper, we outline the drivers of cryptocurrency enthusiasm and consider some of the challenges ahead.
